Luke Baumgarten – Publisher & Editor
Luke is the founder of RANGE Media and a bunch of other things. He’s passionate about telling great stories, promoting world-changing ideas and enabling the creative spark that follows when people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives and expertise get in a room and discuss anything with passion. A lifelong Spokane guy, he studied Philosophy at Gonzaga University before joining the journalism world as a writer and editor at The Inlander for 10 years. In addition to RANGE, he’s a co-founder of Terrain, a non-profit arts organization, the founder of Fellow Coworking, and a founding partner of creative services firm Treatment.
Valerie Osier – Managing Editor
Val is from the Inland Empire of Southern California and found her love for journalism while at community college. After working in CA local news for four years, she started at RANGE in January 2022 and is proud to call Spokane home. Valerie is passionate about empowering her community through knowledge and bringing important issues to light. Outside of the newsroom, you can find her reading books, thrifting for new treasures or trying a new DIY home project with far too much confidence.
Erin Sellers – City Hall & Politics Reporter
Erin moved to town from Idaho to attend Gonzaga University, fell in love with Spokane and hasn’t left yet. They are a queer storyteller, and when they’re not pounding Red Bulls (not sponsored) and typing frantically, you can find her on and off stage at a few of the theatres in town. Aaron Hedge – Reporter
Originally from Colorado, Aaron earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University in June 2023. His writing explores environmental issues and the relationship between humans and animals. He grew up in a Christian home and wants to write more about end times theology. Sophia Mattice-Aldous – Murrow Fellow Reporter
Based in Newport, Sophia is a Murrow News Fellow covering rural issues for the Miner Newspaper and for RANGE. She has over 20 years experience as a reporter and photojournalist serving rural communities in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. She has covered everything from economics, health, education, crime, the environment, the arts, sports, etc. Sophia has also won numerous awards for her writing and photos from the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association. Pascal Bostic – Producer
Pascal Bostic (they/them) is an artist, storyteller, and the Editorial Producer for RANGE. When they’re not producing episodes of Free RANGE, you can find them working on their latest creative project, reminiscing on a previous art piece, or finding a way to start the next one. Sandra Rivera – Photographer
Sandra is a senior Journalism major at Gonzaga University and former RANGE intern. She is an alum of SFCC, where she earned her first degree in Communication Studies and Photography. Her work centers on telling people’s stories through photography, and she also writes for her school’s yearbook and newspaper. She is deeply engaged in pop and fandom culture, a proud member of the Hispanic community and based in Spokane.
